Artistic Statement
|
As a performer and creative, I am deeply interested in combining traditional values with current issues and evolving perspectives. I value expressive and precise physicality along with deep, introspective thought in my work. I believe that as a practitioner, one should never neglect the humanity within – it must be made with critical consideration of the people, their experiences, and the truths they carry. At the same time, I also believe that art cannot be confined to stringent rules, as that restricts the pleasure, discovery, and meaning that are vital to creativity.
My process thus reflects this, where I continually train the body as well as the mind, and enjoy collaborating in environments where play, listening and hard work are valued; whilst consideration of a character or a piece goes beyond the fictional world. My goal, then, is to create work and present characters that can provide a reflection for an audience, where they are provoked to feel – to be seen, challenged, or comforted. |
